Mining Museum Ridanna-Monteneve/Ridnaun–Schneeberg

Schneeberg is one of the highest-altitude mines in Europe and extends between 2,000 and 2,650 m asl in the heart of the Alps. Almost a millennium, armies of miners extracted precious minerals such as silver, lead and zinc in the harshest climatic and working conditions. After a glorious history, the mine closed down definitively in 1985. Today, it has been turned into a museum and offers an extraordinary and vivid overview of both ancient and modern ore extraction techniques. Visitors are accompanied by highly skilled local guides, some of them come from families of miners.
